Castaic Lake Final Results

The California Bass Championship kicked off its inaugural season on January 22, 2010 at Castaic Lake. There were 18 brave anglers that braved some of the biggest storms in recent California history.

"We had high hopes for Lake Castaic starting off our season with a full field. Sometimes you make a great call and sometimes you don't. This time we didn't as Castaic has our lowest number of entries for the entire year," stated Tom Leogrande tournament director for the CBC. "The good news is we learned a lot about how we want to run these events moving forward."

The CBC streamed the weigh in live online to an averate of 120 viewers throughout the duration of the weigh in. "We really took our time with the weigh in and tried to get a little closer look at the anglers that are making our event a true one of a kind and game changing event. We did a few things great and missed the mark on a few other things, but that's what we are here for, we'll continue the things that worked well and eliminate the ideas that didn't work so well as we move forward. Of course, the streaming video was a hit for the viewers at home or at work, but we do need to adjust the way we do the local PA system in order to fix the sound on the video. Locally, the live scoreboard was a hit with the anglers and spectators as they could see exactly where they stood or what they needed to achieve to make the regionals," Leogrande continued to explain. "We tried some things in regards to boat numbers on the motors of the boats, I think moving forward we'll leave that one on the docks. It worked out decently but, I think it was more of a hassle for our staff prior to launch then the benefit it provided on the water. We also enjoy listening to the anglers and some suggestions were made to kick this thing up another notch. I'll give you one of the ideas, in true Bassmaster Classic fashion, having intro music for the angler as they pull up to the weigh in. This probably won't be feasible for the local events, but I think doing it for the regionals and championship is almost a for sure."

Whether the CBC will include angler "intro music" in the future events is yet to be seen. One thing is for sure the CBC is out to try new stuff, highlight the anglers, their sponsors and the sport of bass fishing.

Next week we head to Diamond Valley and then off to Lake Cachuma before heading to Lake Don Pedro for our first Northen California qualifier. Diamond Valley still has about 7 spots available and Lake Cachuma has about 17 spots available. Don Pedro is sold out at 50 boats with several anglers on the waiting list. See you next friday from Southern California's prime jewel Diamond Valley.
